Introduction

This case study describes the acquisition of a community with the goal of multiplying capital.
The key aspect of selecting communities is not the unlimited number of platforms available on the open market, but rather the ability to identify profitable communities from among many others.
Overall, the methodology for selecting and purchasing communities has remained the same for 10 years, as it continues to deliver results. Therefore, some details in this case will be identical to previous ones.

Key Features

Tasks involved in selecting a community for passive income include:

  • Finding a suitable community through community marketplaces and personal connections

  • Reaching out to the marketplace/platform or directly to the community owner

  • Analyzing the data received

  • Calculating estimated payback period, monthly revenues, and expenses

  • Arranging and closing the deal

Implementation

Goals and the order of capital deployment were defined as follows:

  1. Achieve payback within 1–2 years (the market has changed significantly; previously, payback was 2–3 years, now it’s shorter)
  2. Define a further development plan for the community (for example, whether it needs traffic acquisition or other strategies)
  3. Set a timeframe for the project
  4. Establish a budget

Next, we began preparing for the selection and acquisition process:

  • Established contact with well-known community sellers
  • Reviewed offers available on the open market (always verifying the seller’s actual relationship to the community)
  • Viewed and analyzed all proposals
  • Selected a shortlist of five communities, conducting a detailed analysis of each
  • Ultimately, we chose the single best community that fit the client’s requirements and budget. Below is a screenshot of the community’s statistics at the time of purchase.
We contacted the owner and requested additional income data. It’s crucial not to overlook this step, as explained in our previous case. Developed a financial model: calculated editor costs, projected income, and other expenses. Selected a suitable and reliable editor from our in-house team (we usually offer our own editors, but in some cases, we find an editor on the open market). Closed the deal for the community purchase. The final price after negotiations was 725,000 RUB (approximately $7,525).

Results

  • The acquired project paid for itself in 17 months instead of the projected 24. Thus, the goals for both timeframe and payback were achieved.

  • Thanks to the right approach, the purchased community continues to grow—using our proven methods.

  • After reaching payback, the project has been delivering passive income for 5 months and counting.

  • The community continues to grow, and all bots have been removed.
